A letter to the Commander of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Democritus Zervakis on the issue of mass food poisoning in camps in the province of Larnaca, was sent by the P.E.M.S.E. (Pancyprian Committee of Mothers, Relatives, National Guard) Larnaca / Famagusta.
In its letter, which was made public, the Commission states that P.E.M.S.E. Larnaca / Famagusta, after the announcements that there were mass, food poisonings in the camps of the province (KEN Larnaca, Kosi and others), contacted the spokesman of GEEF Mr. Christos Pieris and asked for information.
"According to the GEEF audits, a significant number of national guards on Saturday (24/07/2021) night, consumed a specific food with sauce, prepared in a food preparation center for the national guards approved by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. After consuming this food, several national guards disbanded, more in the KEN Larnaca (Recruitment Center), about 30 people and the doctor of the camp was called. "As they have told us, they were offered first aid and no national guard had to be taken to the hospital and they all recovered by noon the next Sunday (always according to GEEF controls)," he added.
In addition, they state that given that due to summer high temperatures prevail and it is very easy to spoil edible, especially cooked, "we understand that something may have happened, either in the preparation or transport of food, so we are not absolutely strict ».
"However, as P.E.M.S.E., as mothers of the national guards, whose main concern is their health and care, we ask the National Guard and the Ministry of Defense to take stricter measures both on Friday. as well as in the transport of food and to make more health control. We are currently declaring this and we will closely monitor all developments. We hope that both the GEEF and the Ministry of Defense will respond to our request / observation. "Because our National Guard has been called to serve the homeland in time of war and therefore, in time of peace, they should be treated as best they can," the Commission concluded in a statement.
