Epilogue to the case of 6-year-old Eitan: "He will be transferred to a foreign country"

Israel's Supreme Court has ordered that 6-year-old Eitan Biran, who survived a tragic cable car accident last May that killed 14 people, including his family, return to Italy by 12 noon at the latest. December.

According to Reuters, the court rejected the request of Eitan's grandfather to appeal against previous decisions that said the boy should be sent back to his aunt in Italy.

The child has been living with his aunt since his parents, younger brother and 11 other people died after a cable car crashed in northern Italy in May.

In September, his grandfather, during a visit to Italy to see his grandson, without his aunt's consent, drove him to Switzerland and chartered a private jet to Israel, sparking a cross-border custody battle.

The aunt asked the Israeli family court to return the child to Italy. The court found that the grandfather's actions amounted to abduction under the Hague Convention on the Return of Abducted Children.

"Appeal rejected", states in its written decision the Supreme Court. The minor will be returned to Italy no later than 12.12.2021.

The aunt's lawyers welcomed the decision, saying it put an end to a sad and unnecessary chapter that was detrimental to Eitan.

On the other hand, the grandfather's side stated that he would continue the legal fight for the return of Eitan to Israel.

They claim that "With the decision, the boy will be transferred to a foreign country, away from his roots and his beloved family and from the place where his parents and little brother are buried."

It is recalled that the person who assisted in the abduction of a 6-year-old by his grandfather, last September, in Italy, is said to be the 50-year-old who was arrested in Limassol, under a European arrest warrant.

According to the head of the Limassol Police Department, Lefteris Kyriakou, "on November 12, the Limassol Police Department received a European warrant from the Italian authorities for the arrest of a 50-year-old man allegedly involved in a kidnapping case of a minor committed in Italy in September 2021."

"After examinations and relevant monitoring, members of the Limassol TAE, located the 50-year-old yesterday in a hotel in Limassol, where he was arrested under the European arrest warrant and was taken into custody.", he added.

"According to what is stated in the European arrest warrant, the 50-year-old along with another person, allegedly conspired and transported the minor, without the consent of the guardian, to a third country", he added.
