The Ministry of Health announced yesterday afternoon the detection of a case of monkey pox in Cyprus.
Speaking to Radio Proto, the Communications Advisor of the Ministry of Health, Konstantinos Athanasiou, said that the case is a 40-year-old man with a travel history and clinical symptoms compatible with monkey pox.
"From the first moment, the competent services were mobilized, all protocols were followed and the investigation and tracing of the contacts began so that they receive the necessary instructions," said Mr. Athanasiou.
Clarification that the travel history concerns a European country.
He went on to say, “The bottom line is that we should contact our personal physician if we have symptoms.
Our personal doctor will decide whether this person should be referred to the nearest public hospital accident and emergency department. There will be further evaluation to determine if he should be transferred to the referral hospital where a molecular test will be performed by the biological laboratory."
He explained that contacts should not be self-limiting in the initial stage and that the release is always done in consultation with the personal doctor.
