Today, Monday, 140 Prison Guards, members of the Prison Guards Branch of the Pan-Cypriot Union Equality, went on an indefinite strike.
The Prison Guards, at the same time, are holding a protest outside the Ministry of Justice, holding banners that read "Not a step back" and "Mr. General you on A16, we on A2".
Members of the Police are also present at the scene.
As they had stated in their statement, the reasons for the indefinite strike and the protest are the breach of the promise given by the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Stefis Drakou, by the General Director of the Ministry, Mr. Louis Panagi on 4/3/2022 (at the meeting we had at the Ministry), for the upgrade of the salary scale of the Prison Guards, at the same time as the upgrade of the scales of the Police and the recent decision to reject the request of our Guild to provide the special allowance to the Prison Guards from the Ministry of Finance, despite the positive recommendation of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, as is typically reported.
