The Investigative Committee is proceeding with the coordination of actions for the Abvakum Monastery case

The Investigative Committee of the Holy Synod proceeded today to coordinate the actions for the investigation of the case of the Monastery of Saint Avvakoum in Fterikoudi. However, no information was given as to whether the two archimandrites on holiday appeared today before the commission in the Archdiocese.

In his statements to the Archdiocese, after today's session of the Investigative Committee of the Holy Synod, Father Eleftherios, on behalf of the Committee, said that following the decision of the six-member Synodal Court to refer the case of the Monastery of Saint Abvakum before the Investigative Committee, today they met the members of the Commission in order to coordinate the actions they are asked to carry out to investigate this case.

"As we have also stated with the announcement of the investigation committee dated March 19, throughout our work which is the gathering of all the material and the drawing up of a conclusion which will be presented before the six-member Synodal Court, in order to reach a decision, we did not we will make any further statements on the merits of the case while the committee's work continues as normal," he said.

When asked if the two monks on holiday appeared before the Investigative Committee today, Father Eleftherios said that he would not say anything further, repeating that today they coordinated the project and the next actions. "I am not authorized to say anything more," he concluded.

However, based on what the KYPE has already reported, the two monks on holiday may give testimony, where the Commission decides, either in Nicosia, or on site at the Monastery.

As far as the procedure is concerned, it is in the investigation committee of the Holy Synod, which has now started the procedures and then, when its work is completed, it will bring the conclusion before the 6-member Synodal Court. There the Court will do its own work based on the finding, to make the final decision.

However, the Police are not making any announcements about the case either. However, based on the information of the KYPE, under the microscope of the Force's investigations is the complaint of the Holy Metropolis of Tamassos concerning cases of a financial nature, the complaints of the monks about what happened in the first days of the case, which refer to their illegal transfer and threats, both cases investigated by the sub-directorate of vulnerable persons and concern the beating of a woman by a priest and the matter of the sexual abuse of a citizen by a monk of the Monastery.
