Picasso's ceramic art for the first time in Cyprus. An undeniably historic artistic event. Twelve original ceramic works by Spanish artist Pablo Picasso are on display today at the Cyprus Museum.

The exhibition is part of the "Picasso and the Mediterranean" program launched by the Picasso National Museum in Paris and aims to re-approach Picasso's work on its relationship to antiquity and history, so they are involved in it. 5 museums and we are lucky to have the Cyprus Museum.

And Picasso himself may never have traveled to our island, but his works are inspired by Cypriot ceramic art.

The trigger for this exhibition was the complex vase we see here in Picasso. It is inspired by an early Bronze Age pottery found in the Louvre Museum and we estimate that Picasso would have seen it. Picasso takes this shape and turns it into a woman, hence the name of the vessel, which is called "Women's faces.

Anthropomorphism and the zoomorphism of its vessels are the main features of its art, elements that we also find in Cypriot pottery.

The exhibition compares Cypriot antiquities which have been divided into thematic sections in order to show the visitor the convergences that exist between the Cypriot antiquities and the works of Picasso.

The impressive exhibits come from the Picasso National Museum in Paris, the Picasso Museum in Antip, and the private collection of the artist's heirs and will be housed in the Cyprus Museum until September 8.
