Karagiannis: Why no lockdown was decided- "We will have more cases"

The member of the Advisory Scientific Committee, Dr. Petros Karagiannis, is sure that even more cases will be recorded in the coming days due to the predominance of Omicron.

Speaking on the show Protoselido, Dr. Karagiannis commented on the epidemiological data while explaining the reasons why the Government did not take the decision to proceed with a strict lockdown.

In particular, he said, "From the numbers we have, it is almost certain that Omicron has prevailed in the community and we will have more cases in the coming days. "Realize that we must act responsibly."

As for the new measures, he explained that if it was a strain that was seriously pathogenic and we did not have the vaccination coverage we have at the moment, we would have a hard lockdown.

"The micron is not adequately protected by the two vaccines. The third vaccine is recommended without rotation, because it works. "Viruses, like Omicron, which are transmitted so fast, then burn and show a drop in cases," explained Dr. Karagiannis.

He also noted that, "the symptoms of Omicron are almost the same as the flu but there is a symptom that distinguishes it. "This is a skin rash that we have not seen in other mutations."

Finally, regarding the return of children to schools, Dr. Karagiannis said that "it is something that will be discussed next Tuesday because we thought it was good in the coming days to look at the epidemiological data and make decisions that may be stricter than yesterday." .
