Storm 'Eva': Rain, Thunderstorms and Hail Coming - Yellow Warning at Noon

Severe weather EVA is expected to affect Cyprus from midday onwards. According to the Meteorological Service, rain, storms and hail are expected.

It is reminded that a Yellow Warning has been issued which will come into force at noon. The warning will be in effect from 12:00pm until 8:00pm. Locally strong storms are expected to affect the area. The intensity of the rain is expected to vary from 35 to 50 millimeters per hour, while hail is also possible.

The barometric low called "EVA" is moving southeast and is starting to affect the area.

Today, initially there will be locally increased cloudiness which on the western coast is expected to give isolated rain or even a storm. Gradually until noon, the weather will become mostly cloudy, while from noon onwards rains and local storms are expected which will initially occur on the western and northern coasts and progressively in other areas of the island. Hail may also fall in a storm. Local effects are likely to be intense. Winds will initially blow northwest to northeast, weak, 3 Beaufort, to soon become mainly southeast to southwest and locally variable, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort and locally moderate, 4 Beaufort, while transient in windward coastal areas to strong, 4 to 5 Beaufort. The sea will initially be calm to a little rough, however gradually by midday it will generally become a little rough. The temperature will rise to around 24 degrees inland, on the south-east and east coasts, around 22 on the south-west, west and north coasts and around 13 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tonight the weather will remain mostly cloudy with localized showers and isolated thunderstorms expected. Late in the evening the effects will weaken and will be limited mainly to the eastern half of the island. The winds will initially be variable, weak and locally to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort, to become later mostly northwesterly to northeasterly, of the same intensity. The sea will generally be a bit rough. The temperature will drop to around 14 degrees in the interior, around 15 on the coast and around 7 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Tuesday the weather will be partly cloudy and locally, intermittently cloudy, with isolated rains or even isolated storms, mainly in the eastern half of the island and later also in the mountains. On Wednesday, the weather will be partly cloudy and partly cloudy, with isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the southwest and on the southern coast.

On Thursday, there will be locally increased clouds which are expected to give isolated rains, without excluding the possibility of an isolated storm, initially on the eastern coast and later in the mountains, during the midday hours and after.

The temperature is not expected to change appreciably until Thursday, to remain close to the average climatological values ​​for the season.
