CYPRUS: Two more deaths and more than two hundred cases

The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 29, 2021:

- Two people died of the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 499.

- 157 patients COVID-19 of which 61 are in serious condition. 84,08% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 14 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

- A total of 30,027 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 208 (positivity rate: 0,69%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 113,277.

The following are the current results in detail:

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A 74-year-old woman, who ended up on August 28 in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

- A woman, aged 87, who ended up today at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 499, of which:

323 men (65%), and

- 176 women (35%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 157 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 61 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 61 patients in serious condition, 24 are intubated, three are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 34 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 30,027 diagnoses made today, 5,191 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 24,836 by antigen rapid test, 208 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 14 cases from 119 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases of 3,504 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 27 cases from 1,299 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 1 case from 64 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 85 cases from 11,468 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 72 cases from 13,368 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 199 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 6 samples taken in the context of control of closed structures.
