CYPRUS: One death - The announcement of the daily cases

The Ministry of Health announces that today, March 23, 2021:

- A person has died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 246.

- 222 patients COVID-19 50 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 36,702 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 365 (positivity rate: 0,99%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 42,993.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The one person who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, it's about:

- A man, aged 90, with underlying diseases, who ended up at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 246, of which:

163 men (66%), and

- 83 women (34%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 79 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 222 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 50 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 50 patients who are critical, 23 are intubated, five are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 22 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 36,702 laboratory diagnoses performed today, 3,533 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 33,169 by the antigen rapid test, 365 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 125 cases from 735 samples obtained through the process of tracking close contact (primary contacts) cases.
  • 3 cases of 500 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 86 cases from 1,777 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 13 cases from 464 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 14 cases from 846 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 124 cases from 32,323 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 57 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
