CYPRUS: Three dead and 174 new cases

The Ministry of Health announces that today, September 9, 2021:

- Three people died of the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 526.

- 119 patients COVID-19 of which 37 are in serious condition. 80,68% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 12 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

- A total of 56,956 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 174 (positivity rate: 0,31%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 117,553.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The three people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A 99-year-old man who died on September 8 at the Limassol General Hospital.

- A woman, 74 years old, who ended up on September 8 at the Limassol General Hospital.

- A 64-year-old man who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 526, of which:

339 men (64%), and

- 187 women (36%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76,4 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 119 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 37 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 37 patients in serious condition, 16 are intubated, two are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 19 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 56,956 diagnoses made today, 4,796 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 52,160 by antigen rapid test, 174 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 17 cases from 181 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 8 cases of 2,353 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 30 cases from 2,041 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 148 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 82 cases from 31,342 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 29 cases from 20,818 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 63 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 10 samples taken in the context of control of closed structures.
