M. Giakoumi: The Cypriot issue of survival and the new generation does not forget

The Cyprus is a matter of survival and the new generation does not forget and does not write off, said the MP of the Democratic Party Michalis Giakoumis, in his speech during the discussion of the 2022 Budget in Parliament.

"We continue the struggle for liberation from the occupation and we remain committed to resolving the agreements without foreign troops and without guarantees," he noted.

He added that Turkey's provocations in the enclave of Varos do not allow for complacency or illusions. "Famagusta should not be lost because with it the perspective will be lost. We support the proposal of President Anastasiadis for Famagusta, which can serve as a model for the coexistence of Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. "It can also be a model for the development of economic activity and a breeding ground for new businesses," he said.

I know, he continued, that this is not an easy task due to the intransigence of the Turkish side. "We must exhaust all possibilities in order to preserve hope, to keep the window of perspective open for a solution," he said.

Referring to the health sector, he said that the pandemic reminded us of the value of this valuable asset for every human being, which we must preserve, emphasizing that the state has an obligation to provide health services to all citizens.

"The General Health System is a great achievement of our people which we must strengthen. There are and there are many problems. "But it is much less than we had before the implementation of this great social and economic reform," he added.

In systems of other countries with many years of experience, he said, there is a need for constant updating as a result of changes in technology and human needs.

"But allow me," said Michalis Giakoumis, "to very modestly argue that society does not need unnecessary confrontation and artificial polarization. Especially those of us who come from the new generation, we experience in our skin the need for the necessary understanding, the need for the minimum communication between the political forces and for the setting aside of those who separate us. Those that unite us are much more. "Only in this way will we be able to deal with the great problems that concern the country."
