Metropolitan of Limassol: It saddens us that our Orthodox brothers are fighting among themselves

The Metropolitan of Limassol, Athanasios, commented on the information about possible bombings of Orthodox churches in Ukraine and the Russian invasion of the country, speaking on the show Mesimeri kai Kati.

He initially stated that "the war is tragic. It's something sad and unpleasant that we do not want. "It's something we do not wish for not only the possible bombing of churches but for any human being."

Asked if he was concerned about the Orthodox population in Ukraine, the Metropolitan of Limassol said he was saddened that two Orthodox peoples had this difficulty in their relationship.

"Every human being is an image of God. "We must not treat each other as our enemy," he said.

The Metropolitan of Limassol noted that, "if my voice is heard, I would ask God to enlighten them. To enlighten them, that what they are doing is wrong. War is a bad thing and dialogue can lead to a better solution. Faith is set aside in these difficult times. It is a fact that we are saddened that our Orthodox brothers are at war with each other. "

Finally, he wished the next day to bring peace to the region in both ecclesiastical and political matters.
