The charitable cycling was successfully held on Saturday, October 17, in order to raise money for the support of the Cyprus Cancer Association and the Pancyprian Association for children with cancer and related diseases "A Dream A Wish.
The contributions reached € 44.000 including the amount of € 4.000 which was offered to the Cancer Association after the music event in Ypsonas that took place last month.
The cycling was organized by the Police of the British Bases, in cooperation with the Administration of the British Bases and was under the auspices of the First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Andris Anastasiadis and the Commander of the British Bases in Cyprus.
The Commander of the British Bases in Cyprus, Major General Rob Thomson, who took part in the cycling, shortly before the start said:
"We are here to raise money for a multitude of people who are suffering worse than us and this is very important for the Cancer Association and the One Dream One Wish Association. "We have to raise money for those who are less fortunate than us."
Starting from the village of Avdimou, the 40 cyclists covered 153 kilometers, passing through the communities in the areas of the British Bases of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, ending at the Police Station of Agios Nikolaos Famagusta. At all stops, cyclists were welcomed by children supported by the Association A Dream A Wish, as well as volunteers of the Cyprus Cancer Association.
At the end, the representatives of both Associations expressed their warm thanks to the organizers of the event, as well as to all the communities, local Associations and companies that supported the whole event and contributed to the financial support of the Associations and consequently all those are facing cancer.
On behalf of the Cyprus Cancer Association, the Director Maria Ioannidou, thanked all those involved for the large amount of money raised.
He said: "I am very excited that once again the people showed their sensitivity and offered to their fellow man. On behalf of the Cyprus Cancer Society, I would like to thank Major General Rob Rob Thomson, Chief of Police Chris Eyre, the cyclists, the communities, the local associations and the companies that supported the whole event and contributed to financial support of the Association's palliative care services ''.
George Penidaex, President of the Association One Dream One Wish, said: “I would like to express my gratitude to the Association One Dream One Wish for the great offer, of the BB, the Commander, the Chief of Police, the cyclists, all the contributors and sponsors. It is a great effort to be able to fulfill the wishes of children suffering from various forms of cancer. "The children and their families are grateful for all the help."
