Ustel: The t/c side does not interfere with those who shop in the free zones

"We do not interfere with our citizens who shop" in the free areas, said the "prime minister" Unal Ustel, who was placed in charge of fuel supplies for Greek Cypriots in the occupied territories. Mr. Ustel added that the U.S. side took the issue to the international stage.

Speaking to the illegal "Bayrak", Mr. Ustel said that the Turkish side is taking new initiatives at the roadblocks, which will attempt to deal with the existing problems.

Regarding the unification of the occupied "municipalities", Mr. Ustel stated that "most of them have problems. The world is changing. Motherland Turkey is changing. Southern Cyprus [SS free areas] is changing. Since 2008, no changes have been made to the law on municipalities. We will do this. The municipalities will not be closed, but will be merged - thus, the quality of services will increase."

Mr. Ustel also mentioned that the issue they could not agree on with the opposition was the postponement of the date of the "municipal elections" and that they moved that date to November. So the "elections" will be held on the last Sunday of November.

Mr. Ustel also focused on the energy crisis in the occupied territories, stating the following: "Apart from the structural problems at the electricity authority (Kıb-Tek), we also have the fuel problem. We examine these problems one by one. We brought friends from the Turkish Electricity Authority and they are conducting an investigation at the Teknetzik production unit (occupied Kyrenia). We must eliminate the structural problems of the electricity authority. For this purpose, we need a new law. The electricity authority is one of the bodies with the largest budget. There are problems both in administrative matters, as well as in matters of fuel and mechanics".
