PASYXE: Positive development the coronapass for Cypriot hotel guests

The General Manager of the Pancyprian Hoteliers Association (PASYXE) Filokypros Rousounidis characterized the introduction of the coronapass as a positive development for Cypriots who will choose to stay in hotels, noting that it is a safe framework around which the hotel industry.

Speaking to KYPE, Mr. Rousounidis expressed optimism that the great pillar of the economy, the tourism industry, is finally being unlocked.

He stated that for weeks PASYXE had suggested the opening of hotel units for Cypriots with the so-called green pass, which had been successfully implemented in France for domestic tourism.

"We believe that the coronapass is a safe environment around which the hotel industry can reopen and open up. On the one hand, it maintains high levels of public health safety and on the other hand, it makes the residence not only of Cypriots but also of foreigners, who come with tests or vaccinated, to feel that they are in a safe controlled environment, which is in a positive direction. " , he said.

Asked if people would respond by using coronapass to book hotel accommodation, he said: "Anyone who would like to spend a holiday in a hotel unit would definitely do so for their own benefit but maybe they would too, to know that he is in a safe environment governed by protocols and those around him and those who vacation near him are also either negative or vaccinated ".

Optimism for summer bookings

Mr. Rousounidis said that the bookings at the moment are few due to the restrictive measures and the lockdown, but also to our epidemiological picture, as it has been evaluated at the moment.

"We hope that in the coming weeks, with the improvement of our epidemiological picture and the speed with which the vaccination program is made, we will see these bookings increase drastically and that by the end of June-beginning of July we will be able to host substantial tourist flows from abroad ", he noted.

Asked at what levels the bookings will range, the General Manager of PASYXE stated that any assessment can be made at present.

We hope, he said, that at least the tourist season and perhaps an extension of it until November-December, if the weather conditions allow, to help us so that the year is better than last year, to be bearable, to give breath to the industry so that we are able to experience rates of recovery, growth, starting from 2022.

"Certainly, we will initially expect bookings from our main time markets, which are none other than Great Britain, Russia and Israel. Also from the Nordic countries, it seems that there is a demand, Germany and Belgium are also entering the game. "It seems that we are high in the preferences of specific markets, but it remains to improve our epidemiological picture that will be our passport for a tolerably good summer season", he added.

Mr. Rousounidis appealed to all of us to continue to observe the restrictive and sanitary measures to stop the pandemic in order to improve our epidemiological image.

"This is necessary for the economy to be able to restart, because the tourism industry is affecting us all, either directly or indirectly in this country, and it would be good to shield the country's economy and avoid unpleasant situations in the future," he added.
