Over 400 complaints within 12 hours - Extensive traffic control operation

Extensive operation of traffic controls carried out yesterday 16/11/2021 in Limassol, members of the Police in collaboration with members of the Police of the British Bases and with the assistance of officials of the Department of Road Transport - TOM, and the Department of Labor Inspection.

The focus of the inspections was to address the violations that have been proven to be among the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions, such as speeding, failure to wear a seat belt and helmet, and the use of a mobile phone while driving.

At the same time, specialized members of the Police, with the assistance of the officers of the Road Transport Department and the Labor Inspection Department, carried out checks on the mechanical condition of vehicles, including the number of trucks and buses, as well as the documents of vehicles and drivers, including professional drivers.

Of the violations found and reported, the 92 complaints for exceeding the speed limit, 54 complaints for not using a seat belt and 14 complaints for using a mobile phone by drivers. The 28 complaints for driving a vehicle without a certificate of suitability - MOT also stand out.

Four persons were reported after driving their vehicles without being covered by a safety certificate, while two persons were reported after being found driving a vehicle without holding a driving license.

Another 21 complaints were made for driving a vehicle without a license, while two persons were reported to have been found driving vehicles which are registered in the TOM as immobilized.

Note that, in five cases the Vehicle Fitness Certificate was revoked.
A total of 126 complaints were made about violations related to the use of tachographs on trucks and buses.

The whole operation started at 6.00 in the morning and ended at 6.00 on Tuesday afternoon, with the members of the Police, the British Bases, the TOM and the Department of Labor Inspection, making a total of 439 complaints for various traffic violations.
