Police are announcing more intensive checks in view of Easter

A written statement was issued by the Chief of Police, Kypros Michailidis, in view of the Easter holidays and the measures of the Police to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Read the statement as it is:

The Holy Week and the anticipation for the Resurrection, find us all, citizens and Police, to experience with agony and sacrifice, the unprecedented conditions of the pandemic that has hit humanity. We are now going through a critical turning point, in the arduous effort to stop the spread of the dangerous virus, which is why the extension of the measures and decrees of the Council of Ministers until the end of April.

Under these circumstances, the Police addresses all citizens asking for their cooperation, while emphasizing that, during these Holy Days, it will be on full alert, carrying out even more intensive checks to monitor the implementation of the measures. There will be no complacency, but on the contrary, the maximum possible mobilization of the members of the Police.

Compliance with the restrictive measures, although painful, has fortunately become the conscience of the vast majority of citizens, whom we thank warmly. With the same conscious attitude and responsible social behavior, everyone is invited to continue to act during the Easter days, without any relaxations and deviations.

Exclusively guided by the health of all and knowing that among us there are vulnerable people, vulnerable groups, patients and the elderly, who must be protected, the Cyprus Police will be in full operational readiness and will act strictly to prevent the spread of the virus. . Although complaints are not an end in themselves, any infringements found will be reported.

Police strongly emphasize that everyone will need cooperation, maturity and responsibility to avoid any religious gatherings, family gatherings or other activities related to Easter customs. He also emphasizes that he will be very strict in the various bad habits during this period, which will unnecessarily aggravate an already difficult situation, such as the flashlights which have been banned by decree, but also the dangerous use of crackers. There should not be any superficial behavior that harms the effort of the Cypriot people.

To this end, the Police once again calls for the cooperation and responsible attitude of the citizens, especially the parents, so that in any case they can advise their children, in an effort to keep them at home, bearing in mind that the crackers and the sparklers is not a toy, but an explosive device, which can cause serious injuries and even death.

We act and behave responsibly and in accordance with the requirements imposed by the difficult situations we live in. We act as befits our culture, the high level of which is proved every day by the vast majority of citizens.

We emphasize emphatically that we are at a pivotal point in relation to reducing the pandemic. It is very easy for what we have all achieved together so far and with many sacrifices, to be overthrown, with all the unpleasant consequences.

We continue to observe the measures, on Holy Week and Easter and for the good of all of us, we stay home.

Especially on these Holy Days, we act responsibly, protecting ourselves, our loved ones and our fellow human beings.

On this occasion I would like to thank once again everyone for the fruitful cooperation, wishing a Happy Easter and may the Resurrection of the Lord save the world and the Cypriot society from the sufferings caused by the recent pandemic.
