KYPE Information: Extension of measures until May 15 - Small relaxations at Easter

Extending the existing measures against the spread of the coronavirus until May 15 is the scenario currently being studied by the Government, which, however, is considering the possibility of small exceptions for certain days, during the Easter holidays.

As KYPE is informed, these exceptions may concern the day of Holy Saturday, as well as on Easter Sunday and specifically in the extension of the traffic of the citizens and in the gatherings in houses.

In particular, the Government is considering the possibility of extending the traffic on Holy Saturday, so that people can attend the service of the Resurrection, as well as the gathering of people in houses on Easter Sunday, with the number not exceeding ten.

The final decisions, however, are expected to be taken by the Council of Ministers next Thursday, April 22nd.

According to the same information, the high number of new cases that are detected every day and the suffocating situation in public hospitals do not leave much room for the Government, which does not rule out the possibility of taking more urgent and stricter measures.

In addition, the Scientific Advisory Committee will meet tonight, which will evaluate the current epidemiological picture, while putting on the table its proposals for the next period.

Church service during Holy Week

In relation to the attendance of the faithful in the churches during Holy Week, the same information has ruled out for the time being the possibility of an increase in the number of people within the churches, however, this may change in the coming days, if the epidemiological picture improves.

Return of students

In the meantime, the issue of delaying the return of students to schools, after the Easter holidays, is not planned to be put on the table of Epidemiologists tonight, since until then there are many days.

According to the information of KYPE, decisions for the return of the students will be taken after Easter Monday, when there will be a clearer picture of the situation and in particular the situation in the hospitals and the Intensive Care Units.
