The use of a protective mask by primary school students at the beginning of the new school year is under discussion, but no final decision has been made, according to the Minister of Education, Prodromos Prodromou.
Speaking on the First Show of Radio Proto, Mr. Prodromou explained that during yesterday's session in the presence of members of the Advisory Scientific Committee of the Ministry of Health, there was a recommendation for the use of the protective mask by students of Primary Education.
"As in the recent past, our experts recommend the use of a protective mask in primary school, at least in older children (s.s. bicyclos) because it has not been decided to vaccinate children of these ages. "They think it's something that could help prevent the virus from spreading."
He added that the issue will be discussed today and during the meeting he will have with the Confederation of Primary Education Parents. "Like last year, this year we will encourage parents to tell their children to wear the mask. "They advise us according to the characteristics of the Delta mutation," he said.
Asked if it would be easy for younger children to adapt to the use of the protective mask, Mr. Prodromou said that "there are some who believe that younger children are easier to adapt".
"We did not make a decision. "The use of a mask in the Primary School is not foreseen in the protocol that has been prepared but it is something that is for discussion", he said at the end.
