We were saddened to learn of the death of journalist Pampos Vassilas, a correspondent in Larnaca for the newspaper "O Fileleftheros".
Pampos Vassilas worked hard, with professional conscientiousness, contributing with his writings to the public debate. He was chasing the truth, putting above all the man and the problems of his daily life. He was a journalist - a fighter.
He won the sympathy and appreciation of all because he was genuine and authentic.
Through his reports he brought to light human stories, such as the case of the youngest hero of the liberation struggle of EOKA 1955-59 Dimitraki Dimitriadis who was killed in Larnaca on March 18, 1956 by a British soldier. Recently, on his own initiative and his own actions towards the Government, the effort was undertaken and finally the remains of the youngest hero of EOKA were located.
We express our sincere condolences to his family, relatives and the family of Phileleftheros.
