High concentrations of dust are observed today, January 11, 2022, in the atmosphere according to the measurements of the ground Stations of the Air Quality Monitoring Network of the Labor Inspection Department.
Because the dust contains small inhaled particles, which may have a negative effect on human health, the public, and especially vulnerable groups (children, the elderly and the sick), are encouraged to avoid outdoors until the phenomenon has passed.
Employers must take appropriate measures (organizationally or technically) to assess the risks to their employers in open spaces and employees in such areas are recommended to use appropriate personal protective equipment.
For information, the last hourly dust collection values measured at 12:00 p.m. in the following areas were:
Nicosia: 70.8 μg / m3
Limassol: 108.2 μg / m3
Larnaca: 71.1 μg / m3
Paralimni: 87.2 μg / m3
Paphos: 109.6 μg / m3
Libra: 104.1 μg / m3
Agia Marina Xyliatou: 48.4 μg / m3
Note that "dust" means inhalable particles in the atmosphere less than 10 μm in diameter (PM10). According to the relevant legislation, the limit value refers to the average daily value and should not exceed the value of 50 μg / m3 (micrograms per cubic meter).
More information and continuous, immediate information on the results of hourly measurements can be found on the website www.airquality.gov.cy and in the application "Air Quality Cyprus", which can be installed for free on a mobile phone.
