A very limited number of counterfeit banknotes with a face value of € 500 have been identified recently and the Police, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Cyprus, urges the public to be especially careful in their transactions.
Although the number of counterfeit banknotes detected is very small and the Police are monitoring the situation, the public is required to carefully check the banknotes they receive during their daily transactions in cash, especially those of large denominations.
On the website of the Central Bank of Cyprus and the European Central Bank, there is information on simple checks to verify the authenticity of euro banknotes.
