Proposal for a law for the abolition of the four-month exams, by AKEL

A proposal for a law for the abolition of the four-month exams was prepared by AKEL, while the issue will be discussed extraordinarily next Wednesday in the Education Committee of the Parliament.

In his statements after the session of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Culture, AKEL MP Christos Christofidis said that tomorrow students, parents and teachers will walk outside the Presidential Palace "in a, I would say, last effort to find a solution to the huge problem that has created with the four-month exams ".

As he mentioned, these exams have already victimized thousands of high school students, at the risk of depriving them of access to European universities.

"At the same time, they have victimized and created huge psychological and other problems for all high school students. "Now, the rulers want to extend this institution of universal examinations to Primary Education, starting, if possible, from the first grade of primary school", he added.

Mr. Christofides said that AKEL appeals to the Government and the Ministry of Education, even the last one, to make second thoughts, "to realize the pedagogical crime that has been committed against thousands of students, but also their parents, and to provide a solution to this huge issue. "

"As AKEL, we have prepared a draft law for the abolition of the four-month exams. This bill, however, will have to be tabled if it gathers the majority of the political forces in Parliament, otherwise it will be interpreted by the government as a vote of confidence for the four-month exams. "I would also like to publicly call on the other political forces, and especially the opposition forces, to join us in finding a solution or at least exerting that effective pressure on the government to force a solution," he added.

Finally, he said that next Wednesday the issue will be discussed in the Education Committee of the Parliament, we hope in the presence of the Minister of Education, because it is a huge issue, it has created a huge upset to students, parents and schools and a solution.
