PD: Speech within the week on anti-corruption measures

The Government Spokesman, Kyriakos I. Kousios, issued a written response to DIKO on the issue of the Cyprus Investment Program, announcing that the President of the Republic will address the people with a speech and will announce the new policy and measures to combat corruption. .

Here is the written answer of the Government Spokesperson:

DIKO reiterates its obsessions, ignoring the fact that those regarding the Cyprus Investment Program (KEP) are before the independent Research Committee that investigates all the applications that have been submitted and approved within the KEP.

We remind you that the Research Committee, which has been given very broad responsibilities, is composed of four distinguished personalities of recognized prestige. Minimal respect for the Research Committee and its work, as well as for the conclusions it will reach, requires the avoidance of any comments or allegations.

Respect for the Independent Research Committee should be greater, as the taking of deposits takes place in full transparency in open, public sessions. The claim that transparency is required is therefore refuted by this fact. We note that such a procedure cannot be applied by the Audit Office.

In no way do we underestimate any corruption phenomena observed during the implementation of the KEP, but these are exactly the subject of investigation by the Research Committee.

We want to assure that with full transparency responsibilities will be assigned to those who and where they arise.

It is time for all of us to realize that our people are preoccupied with the immediate and real problems they face because of the pandemic and its consequences, and that they are not interested in obsessions or any partisan interests seeking to gain some political leadership.

Public opinion is not concerned with populism, but with the contribution of all in dealing with the many problems that society experiences. That is why those who are indifferent and refuse to cooperate in solving these serious problems, will find it face to face.

We also do not ignore the existence of corruption in our country over time, and that is why we are determined to take, in cooperation with all political forces, any necessary measures to combat corruption.

I would like to announce that within the current week, the President of the Republic will address the people with a speech and will announce the new policy and measures to fight corruption.

The statement of the DIKO spokesman, Pavlos Mylonas

The facts that see the light and the mutual accusations between DISY executives and former Ministers of the Anastasiadis government confirm the "party" that was set up with the "golden passports".

Society has a right to know who was responsible for easing the naturalization criteria and whether DISY government ministers had trade relations with companies that benefited from this easing when it was decided.

The mutual accusations of the two former Ministers of the DISY Government and the obvious attempt to shift the responsibility, confirm the panic in which this Government is.

It is clear that they have a lot to hide.

The former Minister of Interior says that the criteria were changed by the former Minister of Finance.

The former Minister of Finance says that the former Minister of Interior changed them.

Society wonders, well did the President of the Republic have a say in the governance of the country, or, did his Ministers themselves do what they wanted?

The society also wonders how an employee of the Parliament, was suddenly found in the Ministry of Interior to play a key role in the management of KEP, bypassing the responsible official the Director of the Population Archive.

By a great coincidence, this particular minister is the brother-in-law of Nikos Anastasiadis συ…

All the above confirm once again the need for absolute transparency and delivery of the files to the Audit Office.

The only way to deal with entanglement and obscurity is to have transparency and publicity to make the truth shine.

Finally, we have to ask, when will the testimony of the former Minister of Interior and current Minister of Finance, Konstantinos Petridis, be made public?
