In Cyprus, the President of the KS OSCE Margareta Cederfelt

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Ms. Margareta Cederfelt has been in Cyprus since Wednesday, where she will attend and address the OSCE International Conference entitled "Fighting Corruption, Defending Democracy: The Role of National Parliaments", hosted by the House of Representatives and will take place on 27 and 28 May 2022, at the International Hospitality Center "Hospitality".

In a statement, the Parliament states that the conference will be attended by MPs from thirty participating OSCE participating States and partner countries of the Organization.

Cypriot government officials, as well as representatives of international organizations, non-governmental organizations and the media, have also been invited to speak.

The conference is organized on the initiative of the MP, Irini Charalambidou, who is also the Vice President of KS. OSCE and Special Representative for Combating Corruption.

Ms. Cederfelt is accompanied by the Secretary General of the OSCE Central Committee, Roberto Montella.

Today, Mrs. Cederfelt will be received by the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, and will have a meeting with the Minister of Defense, Charalambos Petridis.

The inaugural session will be greeted by the President of the House of Representatives, Annita Dimitriou, the President of the Central Committee. OSCE, Margareta Cederfelt, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulidis, as well as the Vice President of the Central Committee. OSCE and Special Representative for Combating Corruption, Irini Charalambidou.

The Special Envoy of the current Polish OSCE Chairmanship, Ambassador Artur Dmochowski, and the Secretary General of the Security Council will also attend. OSCE, Roberto Montella.

The keynote speakers at the first session of the conference, entitled "The Role of National Parliaments in Preventing and Combating Corruption", will be the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office for Anti-Corruption, Anita Ramasastry, the Executive Secretary of the States against Corruption (GRECO), Hanne Juncher, as well as the Vice President of K.S. OSCE and Special Representative for Combating Corruption, Irini Charalambidou.

The second section of the conference is entitled "Best Practices for Preventing Corruption and Enhancing Transparency and Accountability".

Keynote speakers will be Roby Senderowitsch, Director of Practical Governance for Europe and Central Africa at the World Bank;

The topic of the third and last section of the conference is "The contribution of independent institutions and the media in preventing and combating corruption".

Keynote speakers in this section will be the former Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus, Costas Clerides, the investigative journalists, Drew Sullivan, co-founder of the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Program and Mr. Franz Wild, publisher of the Bureau of Investigators Program and the Auditor General of the Republic of Cyprus, Odysseas Michailidis.
