2 money laundering suspects in court – More than €860.000 found

Today, two persons aged 34 and 43, who were arrested on suspicion of money laundering, are being brought before the Limassol provincial court for the issuance of a detention order. The 34-year-old was found to be in possession of more than 160 euros and more than 700 euros in real estate.
Investigating information about money laundering, members of the OPE Limassol placed under surveillance a specific business premises, where around noon on Thursday the 34-year-old was seen exiting and entering a vehicle, which arrived at the site and was driven by a 33-year-old.

Immediately the car was stopped by the members of the OPE and during the check they found, in a bag that the 34-year-old was carrying, a total of 17 envelopes containing sums of money. All files were opened in his presence and after the amount of money was counted, it was found that it amounts to €161.425. The 34-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property and was taken to the offices of the TAE Limassol.

The 41-year-old second suspect was located inside the building, who presented himself as a shareholder of the business and was summoned for questioning at the TAE Limassol, together with the 33-year-old driver of the car.

A search of the premises revealed €706.300 in cash as well as $22.539, £1.375, two banknote counting machines, as well as empty paper envelopes allegedly used to package the money.

Additionally, the amount of €34, mobile phones as well as empty paper envelopes allegedly used to package the money were found in the 815-year-old's home.

Both the 34-year-old and the 41-year-old were arrested on the basis of court warrants and taken into custody, while they are expected to be brought before the Limassol Provincial Court, for the issuance of a detention order.

The Economic Crime Investigation Office of the TAE Limassol continues the examinations.
