At 434 deaths in Italy in 24 hours - What happens in Spain and France

Italy's death toll from the latest wave of pandemics rose to 434 on Tuesday, with 228.179 deaths.

This is the largest number of deaths, since the 28th of last April. In total, 1.481.349 diagnostic tests were performed, 15,4% of which were positive.

There are 1.715 patients with coronavirus in the intensive care units of the country, while there are 19.448 in the hospital wards. Since the beginning of the pandemic the incidents are 9.018.425, with 141.825 dead. At this stage, in Italy the positive for the virus is 2.562.156.

France has registered 464.769 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, according to today's official data. This is the highest number recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

At the same time, 288 patients succumbed to its complications Covid-19, bringing the total death toll to 100.339. At present 3.881 patients are admitted to intensive care units (ICU), 32 fewer compared to the previous day.

The health pass made it possible to avoid 4.000 deaths from COVID-19 in France, according to a study the results of which were published earlier today by an organization under the government.

“The number of patients with COVID-19 "In intensive care units by the end of 2021 it would be 45% higher than that observed with the health pass", increasing the "pressure on hospitals", the researchers note.

The rate of vaccination in France against COVID-19, which amounted to 78,2% at the end of 2021, is estimated to be only 65,2% without the health pass, ie lower by 13 percentage points, the researchers point out.

The infection index COVID-19 in Spain fell for the first time in 2,5 months, according to data from the Ministry of Health today, an indication that the rapid spread of the Omicron variant may be slowing down.

Even though Spain recorded more than 94.400 new cases, the infection rate, as measured in the last 14 days, dropped to 3.306 cases per 100.000 people from a record 3.397 cases last Wednesday.

This is the first decrease since November 2, when it was below 50. The seven-day index recorded an even greater drop, to 1.522 from 1.657 per 100.000.

The number of hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19 in hospitals practically remained the same today since last Wednesday, at just over 15%, at a time when about 25% of ICU beds have been covered.

So far, Spain has more than 8,5 million infections and 91.277 deaths. The country has fully vaccinated 80,5% of its 47 million inhabitants.
