Karousos convened a meeting on the deadly - "Let no more lives be lost"

The Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Giannis Karousos, takes the initiative to create an alliance for road safety, convening a wide-ranging meeting on Monday, with the participation of the Ministry of Justice and Public Order, relevant Services / Departments, the Police and social partners.

Specifically, due to the increased deadly road collisions, Mr. Karousos will return from Brussels on Monday, June 20, 2022, to meet with the relevant government and other stakeholders in road safety, in order to discuss and targeted actions are taken to address the increased road network accidents.

According to the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, "we have a responsibility as a state and as a society to take drastic measures to protect all users of the road network, so that other lives are not lost unjustly on the asphalt." For their part, he added, the Ministry of Transport and the Road Safety Council are promoting a series of actions, such as an incentive plan for the purchase of protective equipment, legislative amendments to the Law on Driving Licenses and the legislative package regulating the movement of Personal Mobility Devices (scooter type) with amendments to the Regulation of the Movement of Bicycles and other Personal Mobility Devices (Amendment) Law of 2021, as well as information and awareness campaigns, improvements in the infrastructure of the road network, etc.

The Minister addresses the House of Representatives to discuss and vote on the proposed amendments to the Law on Driving License and the Regulation on the Movement of Bicycles and other Personal Mobility Devices (Amendment) Law of 2021, as soon as possible. The passage of the legislative changes will ensure additional safeguards for greater protection of road network users and reduction of road collisions and fatal accidents, notes Mr. Karousos.
