Despite the declining trend in the wage gap in wages between men and women in Cyprus, we continue the efforts aimed at reducing or even eliminating the phenomenon, said the Minister of Labor, Welfare and Social Security Zeta Aimilianidou in a message on the occasion of the Day. According to Ms. Amilianidou, the wage gap between men and women in Cyprus has been declining over time, a fact that satisfies us but at the same time "we continue the efforts aimed at reducing and even eliminating this phenomenon."

He cited the latest and revised statistics of the Statistical Service for 2019, according to which, the percentage of the gap has been significantly reduced and is now only 10,1%, compared to 14,1% which is the EU average , with Cyprus now ranking in the 7th best position among the EU member states.

"The wage gap is a multifaceted issue, affecting women's incomes throughout their lives," she said, adding that it was a matter of particular concern to the European Union and its Member States. In terms of social justice, reducing the gap also contributes to economic growth as it strengthens the purchasing power of women and their families.

"In order to address inequality between men and women, we are called to assist all, Employers, Employees and the State", added Ms. Ameilanidou and concluded by saying that the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance, confirms this year its commitment to the goal and substantive equality between men and women, an integral part of which is the complete elimination of the pay gap between men and women ".
