The debts of the slaughterhouse amounting to € 569 thousand and the lost file to the Legal Service

Under the microscope of the Audit Office, the slaughterhouse, where the cases of coronavirus were detected, after illegally withholding the amount of € 568.528 which had to be deposited in the veterinary services fund.

In an intervention on ANT1's show, "Mera Mesimeri", the Spokesman of the Audit Service, Marios Petridis, said that there is money owed to the veterinary services in the specific slaughterhouse where the cases were identified.

In particular, as revealed in a report by the Auditor General Odysseas Michailidis for Veterinary Services published on 8/1/2020, the Cypra slaughterhouse illegally withheld the amount of € 568.528 relating to slaughter fees.

As Mr. Petridis explained, these are sums of money that are collected from all slaughterhouses and specifically from breeders to pay them in the Republic of Cyprus, while as he noted three slaughterhouses owe 936 thousand euros, while the lion's share is specific, as the owes him 569 thousand euros.

At the same time, Mr. Petridis said that a settlement was made with the slaughterhouses to repay the amount due, without interest, a fact that must be settled soon.

Mr. Petridis said that a file of the case was forwarded to the Legal Service but when it was searched it was not located and a report of facts was requested again, something that happened and as it seems from the latest information the issue has progressed and will be monitored by the audit team. will soon go to the Veterinary Services.

He said they have recorded these findings in their report published in January 2020 and presented to Parliament in June, but no one would have known if the cases had not been identified at the slaughterhouse.

He also explained that their contractor had contracted with veterinary services and had to obtain permits for the use and disposal of animal by-products, which was not done and the veterinary services had to take back the guarantee and contact the credit institution which there was the amount of money and he issued the check.

However, when the receipt was issued, which is incorporated in the state revenue, a fax was received from the Nicosia District Court regarding an application against the Attorney General, which prohibited the seizure of the 54 thousand euro guarantee of faithful execution.

The issue that arose with the guarantee of the company Cypra with instructions of the General Accounting Office of the Republic is expected to be brought before the Audit Committee of the Parliament for ex-officio examination so that it is not redeemed in the name of the Republic.
