If the new measures that will be announced tomorrow by the Council of Ministers, do not reduce the cases of coronavirus in ten to fifteen days, even stricter decisions will be taken, warned the Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipandelas.
Speaking on Rick's show "Challenges", the Minister of Health stressed that the aim of the measures is to avoid a lockdown during the Christmas period, to increase the vaccination coverage and to stop the small outbreak of cases.
He said that the recommendations submitted by epidemiologists include the mandatory use of a mask in primary schools and the rapid test in schools on a weekly basis, since according to the tracking team, 25% of cases are students. Telework is also on the table.
The Minister also said that a suggestion has been submitted to give a three-week credit to those who have not been vaccinated, to do so. Otherwise they will be barred from entering entertainment venues.
He revealed that for some of the suggestions such as self test and teleworking, the opinions of experts differ.
The Minister of Health also stated that a suggestion was submitted for the removal of safePass from those who do not receive the booster dose, as well as for the cancellation of the Christmas events.
Regarding the new antiviral drugs that will arrive in Cyprus at the end of December, he expressed the assessment that together with the vaccines they will help significantly in the treatment of the pandemic.
