Theodora Maria, is as her mother, Elena Georgiou, calls her, speaking to SigmaLive, her little daughter since she is only a minute different from her big twin daughter, Nektaria. Her twin daughters were born prematurely and this was the first battle they would fight together.

It all started as Mrs. Georgiou described when it was found in a pregnancy test - at 18 weeks - that little Theodora Maria had a problem with aortic stenosis.

"We received specialized follow-up by a doctor. From August 2020 I stayed in bed and then stayed for a long time at Makareio Hospital. My girls were born at four months. My Nectaria weighed about 1 kilo and Theodora Maria 860 grams ".

The twins had to give their first battle. "This was the big battle they had to fight and then we had to deal with Theodora Maria's heart problem," explains the 33-year-old mother of the children.

The journey of a lifetime in Germany

The twin girls gave the battle and succeeded. The family had to make the big decision for Theodora Maria since the medical examinations showed that the aortic stenosis with which she was diagnosed had doubled.

"Our first indications were that we would travel to Israel but my little one had to reach two kilos. In any case, we prepared our passports and were approved very early by the Ministry of Health to travel immediately ".

Due to the political tensions in Israel at that time, Elena expressed her concern about the trip to the Ministry of Health in a letter. Something that the authorities agreed with and decided that the operation of little Theodora Maria should finally take place in a specialized center in Germany.

"I was calm there in Germany. The doctors - as mentioned in the newspaper article in Germany - gave my child two weeks of life. With the help of God and our beloved doctor Dr. Ioannis Tzanavarou everything was crowned with success. The fact that our doctor is a Cypriot was an important factor for me. It was like a family. "

Hope for today

Elena hugged her children after four months. Rock, next to her her husband who stayed back in Cyprus all this time for their second child.

"I am just optimistic. I know that Theodora Maria will be a child who will grow up with heart problems. I hope you do not need another operation again. "Whatever happens, we will always be by her side and strong."
