65% of the patients in the General Hospital of Famagusta, which operates as a Reference Hospital for patients with coronavirus, have not been vaccinated, said to KYPE Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the General Hospitals Larnaca - Famagusta.

He added that "28 people are currently being treated at the Reference Hospital, five of whom are in the Intensive Care Unit, as they need closer monitoring. The average age of the patients in the hospital is 67 years ".

He noted that "the youngest patient is 31 years old and the oldest is 96 years old, while the Eden Rehabilitation Center in Tersefanou, accommodates 27 people who will remain until their complete negativity. "Of the hospitalized, 65% have not been vaccinated against coronavirus."

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "unfortunately in the last few days there is an increased flow of admissions and patients present with severe symptoms, as a result of which they need immediate treatment. "The message must be given to the people that as soon as they realize any symptoms, they should contact their personal doctor, who will guide them and accordingly refer them to the Hospital as soon as possible, so that the treatment they receive will be effective and beneficial."

He also noted that "protection measures and coronavirus vaccination are the Alpha and Omega to treat Covid-19».

When asked about four points of the Vaccination Center located at the General Hospital of Famagusta, Ms. Hatzigianni replied that "there is a constant flow of people who go to be vaccinated. "Especially in the mornings there is an increased demand for vaccination for the third dose, as well as for the first and second dose," he said.

Regarding the recent increase in coronavirus cases in Cyprus in view of the onset of winter, he said that "both the Famagusta Hospital and the staff are aware that a new coronavirus wave is imminent on the island. "We are all vigilant and the necessary staff reshuffles are taking place, so that patients can be served in the best possible way," he concluded.
