A new fatal road collision occurred last night, at 22:00, on the road from Zygiou to Kalavasos, with the victim being George Sofokleous, 20 years old from Zygi.
According to the Spokesman of the Larnaca Police Department, Haris Hatzigiasemi, "under conditions that are being investigated at some point on the road, the large displacement motorcycle he was driving deviated to the right in terms of its course".
The motorcycle "initially struck an embankment off the road, causing the driver to be ejected from it, while the motorcycle continued on its course cutting a number of acacia trees, dragged onto the asphalt and caught fire."
An ambulance arrived at the scene and picked up the motorcyclist who he transported to the general hospital of Larnaca where the doctors on duty pronounced him dead.
Pieces of a protective helmet were found at the scene and it is being examined whether the victim was wearing it at the time of the collision, Mr. Hatzigiasemi said.
Anyone who knows anything that can assist the police in ascertaining the circumstances of the fatal traffic accident is asked to contact the nearest Police Station or the Citizen's Contact Line on 1460 immediately.
Also, in a post on social media, the community of Zygiou wrote: "Today our village mourns one of the best babies. My dear George. May God rest your soul and give courage to your family! We love you very much and will never forget you,” they wrote.
