He was dragging him on the asphalt for 70 meters - The testimonies are strengthened

Several pieces of evidence, which were collected from the vehicle of the 45-year-old suspect in the under-investigation case of the murder of a 58-year-old man in Paphos, whose motorcycle was swept away by a car in the early hours of Saturday, are of such a nature that they seem to strengthen the testimonies against him, according to the Spokesman of ADE Paphos and Head of TAE Paphos Michalis Nikolaou.

Mr. Nikolaou stated that the investigative work continues with the further evaluation of closed circuits and a large number of documents sent for scientific examination to the Police Headquarters. The 45-year-old suspect's car and the victim's motorcycle were scientifically examined at the Police Headquarters' Criminal Investigation Service, he said.

The 45-year-old still denies any involvement in the case, however, according to testimonies held by the Police, the alleged perpetrator allegedly dragged the victim onto the asphalt for approximately 70 meters.

The autopsy on the body of the 58-year-old is expected to take place today.

According to the events, Mr. Nikolaou said, around 1.30 in the morning on Saturday, a fatal road collision took place on the Avenue of Tombs of the Kings, in Paphos.

Specifically, a motorcycle driven by Ioannis Polykarpou, a 58-year-old resident of Paphos, under circumstances that are being investigated by the Police, was hit by a car, the driver of which left the scene. The 58-year-old was injured in the collision and taken by ambulance to the Paphos General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During the investigation of the road collision, testimony emerged against a 45-year-old resident of Pafos, who claims that he was the driver of the vehicle involved.

From further examinations, it appeared that a short time before, the victim and the arrestee allegedly had an argument with each other in a building in Paphos, which ended with the intervention of patrons.

At around 7.35 am on Saturday morning, the 45-year-old was spotted by members of the Paphos TAE driving his car and was stopped. During the search that followed, burglary tools were found on him and he was arrested for the crime itself. It was also found that the car in question had dents on the front and was freshly spray painted, while a drug test conducted by the 45-year-old had a positive result.

The 45-year-old was taken to the offices of the TAE Paphos where he was re-arrested based on a court warrant, while the Paphos Traffic Police in collaboration with the TAE Paphos are continuing the examinations.

On Sunday, the 45-year-old appeared before the EDP, which issued an 8-day detention against him.
