Rain calls to the Fire Department for help - Driver drifted

Enough problems yesterday due to bad weather in the capital, but in other areas of Cyprus, with the fire department receiving rain for calls for help.

According to the latest information from the Fire Department, the Service until 08.00 on Friday morning, responded to 155 calls for help. The 144 concern the District of Nicosia and the other 5 District of Limassol, 1 Larnaca and 5 in the area of ​​operational responsibility of EMAK. According to the spokesman of the Fire Brigade, crews worked to process the calls throughout the night and will continue today where needed.

The calls mainly concerned rainwater pumping from premises, rescues and towing of vehicles with passengers who were trapped in flooded roads and riverbeds.

By 10.00 on Thursday night, the calls received by the Ministry of Defense due to the rain had risen to 147.

In Anthoupolis, a driver tried to pass through rushing waters near the Maronite cemetery, was swept away by his vehicle and was located by the police forces at a distance of 30 meters, fortunately without injury.

In the province of Paphos intense weather conditions prevail from yesterday with prolonged rainfall and strong winds, however, the damages recorded so far are minimal.

According to a Representative of the Paphos Police Department, due to the severe weather phenomena, there was a landslide of trees on the road Lemonari to Tsada which was cleaned by excavators and there are no problems in the traffic of vehicles.

Also in another case, the fire service was called for a clone to fall in Tala around 02:00 in the morning. Members of the fire service who rushed to the scene, proceeded to cut the clone and seal it. However, according to a representative of the Paphos fire service, the Paphos fire service did not receive any calls for flooded premises.

In the meantime, the District Administration, the Municipality of Paphos and the Fire Service are on alert since yesterday to deal with the phenomena and provide assistance where the need arises.

The District Administration has also put crews on standby, as well as a number of excavators, while for assistance where needed they have recruited a responsible Technical Engineer and an administrative one for coordination purposes with the Fire Service, Police and Civil Defense.
