The Ministry of Health informs that, considering the effects of the pandemic COVID-19 not only to the physical health of the community, but also to the mental and psychological negative effects of the pandemic, set up a Special Committee consisting of qualified Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Sociologists, Social Workers and other related specialties, which aims to character for the psychological recovery of citizens.
Professor Konstantinos N. Fellas, Senior Vice Rector of the University of Nicosia, Professor of Health Sociology, Chairman of the National Bioethics Committee of Cyprus and Chairman of the Parallel Parliament for Civil Society were appointed Chairman of the Committee. The Committee also includes the Director of Mental Health Services Dr. Anna Paradisioti, a representative of the Cyprus Psychiatric Society Dr. Savvas Neokleous, Dr. Georgia Panagiotou from the University of Cyprus, Dr. Andreas Hadjittofou from the University of Medicine Dr. University of Cyprus, Dr. Nikos Konstantinou from the Cyprus University of Technology, Dr. Costas Konstantinou from the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, Professor Christos Panagiotopoulos from the University of Nicosia, Dr. George Georgiou from the European University of Cyprus and Dr. European University of Cyprus.
The Commission's work will focus on defined pillars, aimed at advising the Ministry of Health on action to prevent and minimize the negative effects of the pandemic on mental health.
