Ministry of Health: Readiness of all bodies to manage the increase of hospitalizations

As part of our efforts to shield the Health System and to ensure that our hospitals remain on standby to respond to a possible further increase in the number of patients in the near future, the Minister of Health Mr. Michalis Hadjipandelas chaired last night, July 18, at the General Hospital of Nicosia. The long meeting was attended by the Director General of the Ministry, the management team and officials of OKYPY, representatives of the Pancyprian Medical Association and the Pancyprian Association of Private Hospitals, as well as delegations of health professionals.

During the meeting, an extensive analysis of the current situation was made and the needs that may arise were identified, according to the epidemiological indicators. It was a common finding that, in the event of a greater outbreak of hospitalizations, OKYPY hospitals would have to be decongested from other incidents in order to provide more beds and staff for the treatment of patients with COVID-19.

In addition, the process of referring patients to other diseases in the private sector was examined. This includes the recent Decree, which sets a maximum occupancy rate of 70% for private wards and 60% for Intensive Care Units.

Regarding the staff, on behalf of the Pancyprian Medical Association, the readiness to continue the contribution was transferred by private doctors to the Clinics. COVID-19.

The Minister of Health asked everyone to be ready and to contribute to the effort to serve all patients. The belief was pervasive that with the right and coordinated cooperation of all involved, with the expertise and professionalism that characterizes health professionals, the best possible effort will be made, so that all problems are overcome. At the same time, it was stressed once again that the provision of medical assistance to all those in need will continue unhindered and no patient will be left helpless.
