Suffered finger amputation - Tried to detonate firework

The announcement of the Police:

Around midnight today, a 29-year-old man was taken to the Emergency Department of Larnaca General Hospital, who suffered a serious injury to the palm of his left hand, as well as amputation of fingers.

According to the information under investigation, the 29-year-old was injured while trying to fire a firework, in an open space in a village of Larnaca province, when it exploded resulting in his serious injury. According to the acting doctor of the Hospital, the 29-year-old underwent pharyngeal amputation of the pharynx, small, middle and middle finger.

He was then transported by ambulance to a polyclinic in the Limassol district, where he is expected to undergo surgery. His state of health, according to doctors, is not a cause for concern.

As he told the police officers on duty, the firework had previously been procured from a kiosk.
The Regional Police Station of Kofinou continues the examinations.

On the occasion of this incident, it is reminded that the use of fireworks without a permit from the competent authority is illegal.

Therefore, the public is required to apply the provisions of the relevant legislation and to obtain the relevant permission from the Explosives Inspector, who in each case appoints an authorized / licensed person to fire the fireworks at a specific day, time and place.

Dangers
When fireworks are fired, very high temperatures of up to 400 degrees Celsius and rapidly moving masses of hot gases develop. In addition, very dangerous debris can be thrown during their eruption and explosion.

All licensed fireworks go through strict quality controls and correct / orthodox construction and this is certified at European level by specific organizations and therefore have instructions in Greek, as well as CE marking / accreditation.

Based on the above, any attempt to fire / use a firework, either by an unauthorized / uneducated person, or an uncertified / licensed firework, geometrically increases the chance of accident, accidental explosion or ignition resulting in a very serious chance of causing very serious injuries and injuries. , not only the user but also unsuspecting citizens even over long distances.

Another very serious parameter is the possibility of causing a fire, which can be done at very long distances from the point of fire / use of the firework.

Finally, it is emphasized that, in addition to the risks involved in the illegal firing of fireworks, non-compliance with the relevant legislation is a crime and anyone found to be illegal will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
