A decision on the appeal of the British woman, who denounced gang rape by 12 Israelis in Ayia Napa in the summer of 2019, will be issued by the Supreme Court at 12.00.
In addition, from 11.15 there is a demonstration of solidarity for the British woman outside the Supreme Court.
In January 2020, the British woman was convicted of a false report of rape by the 12 Israelis in July 2019.
In the appeal, filed on September 16, 2021, the young woman's British and Cypriot lawyers argued in a 70-page memo that the four-month suspended sentence of their client was "extremely unreliable" and should be overturned.
They stressed that as long as the sentence is valid, it destroys the future of a young woman who was ultimately the victim of a sexual assault.
The young woman from Darbyshire, England was 19 years old when she suffered the alleged rape. She later withdrew her complaint, but as she claims, under pressure and at the suggestion of the Cypriot police and without the presence of a lawyer.
According to the British newspaper Telegraph, if the appeal does not lead to the reversal of the first instance decision, the young Briton's lawyers will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights.
