Recognizing the need for further protection of stray animals, the Council of Ministers today approved a special Plan to support Local Authorities (ATA), in order to develop appropriate regional facilities for the temporary care of stray dogs. The proposed Plan aims at the financial support of collaborations between local authorities, in order to develop in each Province regional premises for temporary care of stray dogs, in accordance with the requirements of the Animal Protection and Welfare Regulations.
For the implementation of the Plan, the total cost will amount to € 1.500.000 for the period 2022-2024. The operation of these establishments will emphasize the effort for the adoption of stray dogs, while their minimum capacity will allow the effective management of stray animals at the regional level.
ATA collaborations will have the right to submit the application for participation in the Project, which should include, according to defined criteria, a minimum number of municipalities or communities in order to ensure the regional character of the property and the public operation of the space. According to the Plan, the District Administrations will be responsible for monitoring the implementation of the projects by the local authorities, while the Veterinary Services will be responsible for approving the specifications of the sites, to ensure that the requirements of the welfare legislation are met. animals.
