At five million the total amount of student allowances

The framework for the granting of student allowances for the academic year 2017-2018 was approved today by the Council of Ministers, the Student Welfare Service of the Ministry of Education and Culture states in an announcement.

He adds that "under the new framework," the amount of credits that will be allocated during the financial year 2018 and will relate to the academic year 2017-2018 for the granting of student allowances, amounts to five million euros. "

The student family, whose annual gross family income does not exceed 39.000 euros when she has up to two dependent children, has the right to apply for student allowances.

For families with more than two dependent children, the annual gross family income may exceed 59.000 euros by 3.000 euros for each additional child while for the academic year 2017-2018 the annual gross family income obtained in 2017 is taken into account.

In case of unallocated expenses, from the wider fund of student care, the Ministry of Education will consider the possibility of increasing the amount that will be allocated for student allowances.

Regarding the basic provisions of the student allowance framework, which were in force in the academic year 2016-2017, these are maintained with some improvements.

Some of them are the increase of the scoring of the recipients of the Minimum Guaranteed Income / Public Aid from 1 to 5 points, the increase of the scoring of the single parents (as they are defined according to the Law on Provision of Child Allowance) from 1 to 5 points.

Also, “first-year students, beneficiaries of the computer purchase allowance, should be entitled to purchase the computer from 1/7/2017 until 15 days after the publication of the list of Student Allowances.

Pursuant to Article 5 of the Law on State Student Welfare of 2015, student allowances are granted to subsidize specific needs, after taking into account economic, property and social criteria.

Beneficiaries of student allowances arise after the evaluation of applications, which is done on the basis of a scoring system that counts the economic and social criteria, until the available credits of each academic year are exhausted.

According to the Student Welfare Service, regardless of the amount of family income, student allowances are not granted in cases of high value real estate and when the student's family has financial data at current prices (deposits, shares, securities, bonds).

The Student Welfare Service will return soon with a new announcement that will inform about the circulation of the relevant application forms for student allowances which, as for the academic year 2016-2017, will be integrated in a joint application with the student sponsorship.
