Complaint of Ch. Tziovani: "Lives are lost in the Famagusta Hospital" (video)

The issue of the understaffing of the General Hospital of Famagusta is reported by the AKEL MP of the province of Famagusta, Christakis Tziovanis.

In a telephone interview on SIGMA's "Noon and Something" TV show, Mr. Tziovanis warned that the situation at the General Hospital was out of control and that there was a risk that "lives would be lost." According to him, there are shortages in almost all departments, while there are devastating working conditions for medical, paramedical and nursing staff.

He also revealed that because the Famagusta General Hospital is being treated as an outpatient hospital, this is affecting the overtime compensation of doctors, as they are being paid with a reduction, with the result that doctors do not want to staff the Hospital.

For her part, the Director of the General Hospital of Famagusta, Dr. Amalia Hatzigianni the problem of the understaffing of the Hospital is timeless, since all the departments have fewer doctors waiting for the voting of the bills for the autonomy and the GESY.

He also clarified that in terms of overtime compensation there are specialties that are not paid properly but this is an issue that has been handled by PASYKI, which has created accusations per province, and for this reason some specialties are more "wronged". compared to others.

In statements to SotiraNews, the AKEL MP said that almost all specialties are understaffed, with the result that medical staff work three times as long as in the EU. He also said that there are cases of doctors who, as he said, are considering the possibility of suing the state.

He denounced the fact that he has repeatedly asked the Minister to staff the Hospital with more staff, but this was not possible, while, as he said, since 2015 the parliamentary group of the province of Famagusta has registered the issue in the Parliamentary Committee on Health without result.

He also noted the fact that the overtime allowances of the medical staff of the Famagusta Hospital are half compared to other cities, since the G.N. Famagusta is one of the Outpatient Hospitals, despite the fact that Paralimni is now considered an urban Municipality.

At the same time, he praised the efforts made by the staff and the management of the Hospital, while as the building of the General Hospital said. Famagusta is one of the best in Cyprus.

Finally, he said that the province of Famagusta contributes 40% to GDP, while as he said the needs of the Hospital are increased mainly in the summer months, with the result that during this period that is expected to increase the tourist flow in the province of Famagusta, there are fears for non-service of increased needs.
