This is Mercedes' new electric SUV

Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled, officially, its first electric SUV with 408 horsepower, brutal torque and high levels of autonomy. See all the details for the new EQC.

Aesthetically, the new EQC has clear influences from the Mercedes-Benz SUV range, while incorporating new elements that make it particularly special. First of all, the black glossy mask in the form of a smile stands out in the cantilever, which frames the grille with the big star in the center and looks like the natural continuation of the lighting fixtures. Then, the relatively accentuated shoulders lead to the side flowing curves, which end at the rear where we meet the single luminaires that govern the body throughout its width.

The simple visual ensemble is completed with the five-spoke wheels in silver finish, among which we find an equal number of blue rays that indicate the electric nature of the model.

Entering the cabin of the electric SUV, the first thing we notice is the new infotainment system "Mercedes-Benz User Experience" or for short "MBUX".

This system has two screens inside, while it can be operated with both gestures and voice commands, interacting with it simply by saying "Hi Mercedes", as is the case with Apple's "Siri", "Google Assistant". Google, Microsoft's Cortana and Samsung's Bixby, etc.

From there, the layout follows literally the design style of the German premium brand with glossy black (piano black) surfaces in the space between the two front passengers, air-type switches for air conditioning control and soft ambient lighting in the cabin.

Leaving the internal and external appearance we will start talking in numbers. The new Mercedes EQC, therefore, has a length of 4,76 meters with the wheelbase set at 2,87 meters, while in terms of trunk capacity it reaches 500 liters. This means that the electric SUV enters the hierarchy between the GLC and GLC Coupe, which are 4,66 and 4,89 meters long respectively.

As for the engine of the new EQC, it consists of two electric motors, one which is used for low and medium performance and the second which is activated for higher requirements, with the combined performance reaching 408 hp with a brutal torque of 765 Nm.

Power source for electric motors is a package of batteries with a capacity of 80 kWh, which weigh 650 kg and increase the total weight of the car to 2,4 tons, with the brand promising autonomy of 450 km. An important element is also the charging time of the batteries, as in only 40 minutes they reach 80% of the fullness, if the car is connected to a quick charger.

Turning to the performance part, finally, the new EQC, although playing in the heavyweight category, manages to catch the first 100 km / h from a standstill in just 5,1 dl. with a top speed of up to 180 km / h.

The launch of the electric SUV will take place in mid-2019.
