Famagusta residents living in Paphos sent their own messages when they arrived at the ballot box

Famagusta residents living today in Paphos spoke to KYPE about their feelings, sending their own messages, when they went to the polls to elect the new mayor of the occupied city.

In his statements to KYPE, Vassos Papaiakovou stated that he was born in Famagusta and that for years he lived abroad, first as a student and then as a refugee. He then settled in Paphos. I vote, he said, today because "it is very unfair that Famagusta is a dead city and we could very well find a way to go back." Today he noted, "I vote and I hope we will go back and that is the purpose I came here."

Nikos Tsapalis, also from Famagusta, in his statements to KYPE, stated that today “is the day of the Republic for Famagusta for our city, which we hope to visit one day, free in a regime that allows everyone its inhabitants to visit it to live it, to live it and to enjoy it, to all the Cypriot citizens ”.

He also said that today he is voting with emotion because, as he said, this vote is a process "that renews our connection with our place of origin, with our Famagusta".

A total of 1.184 registered voters will exercise their right to vote in the District of Paphos for the election of the new Mayor of Famagusta.

In her statements to KYPE, the District of Paphos, Mary Lambrou, stated that an electoral center operates in the 08st Lyceum of Ethnarch Makarios III, in the teachers' room where the chairman and three officials were placed. According to the Paphos District, the voters who will exercise their right to vote for the election of the new Mayor of Famagusta are scattered throughout Paphos, ie in all four Municipalities of the Province, but also in the communities.

However, he continued, most are in the parish of Agios Theodoros, followed by Mouttalos and then Geroskipou. In the other communities, he added, the numbers are smaller, ie in some six voters, in others 10, and in Polis Chrysochous 12.

It is noted that five candidates are running for the City Hall of Famagusta, Linos Papagiannis of ELAM, Simos Ioannou Independent, Nikos Karoulas Independent, Andreas Lord Independent and George Stavri Independent.
