Five times the Greek Cypriots rejected the return of Varosia, claims a pseudo-MP

The Greek Cypriot side had a total of five opportunities to return to the enclosed area of Famagusta and lost them, "Varosia is no longer part of the solution, it must be part of a solution that will benefit those who have real rights there and the whole Island's. "And this solution can be brought to the agenda soon with a new approach", said the "MP" of Famagusta of KEE, Oguzhan Hasipoglou.

As reported by the occupiers, Mr. Hasipoglou claimed that the Greek Cypriot side, as it does not want to share with the Turkish Cypriot administration and the natural wealth of the island, and saying no to the solution plans, but also using various excuses, has caused this area to remain closed and a significant income from the tourism sector to be lost.

Either as MOE, or as part of a comprehensive solution, the closed area of Famagusta was proposed to the Greek Cypriots, who on all occasions said no. The biggest desire, he said, of either citizens or foreign investors and EVKAF, is for Varos to become "the pearl of the eastern Mediterranean".

The first rejection, he states in his written statement commenting on the front page of Politis yesterday, was on July 20, 1978, when Rauf Denktash had proposed on behalf of the "Turkish government" the return of 35.000 Greek Cypriots to Varosia under his rule " t / k federal state ”and a transitional administration under the auspices of the UN in Varosia. The Greek Cypriot side, said Mr. Hasipoglou, arguing that before 1974 84.000 people lived in the area demanded the return of the whole of Famagusta.

The second rejection, he continued, was the rejection of Gali's proposals, which on July 1, 1993, in the MOE package he had announced, included the return of Varos.

The third rejection, he said, came when on April 3, 2003, Rauf Denktash had suggested to Tassos Papadopoulos some proposals that would facilitate the search for a formula to facilitate the solution. In these proposals, he added, Varosia up to the UN dead zone (Dimokratias Avenue) would be given to the e / k side, the restrictions - as he states - on trade, transport, travel and sports and cultural activities of t crossings between the two sides, which depend on military procedures, would be facilitated, gradual measures would be taken to normalize trade relations, mutual cooperation plans would be encouraged, the T / C side's restrictions on the handling of UNFICYP would be lifted a rapprochement committee was set up between the two sides.

According to Mr. Hasipoglou, this six-point proposal of Rauf Denktash was rejected by the Greek Cypriot side and in his reply letter the then Cypriot leader, Tassos Papadopoulos, had called for participation in the UN negotiations on to find a comprehensive solution, to continue the good services of the UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, and to accept the Annan plan as a basis for further negotiations.

The fourth rejection, Mr. Hasipoglou said, came with the rejection in 2004 of the Annan plan, saying that if it was accepted, Varosia would have come under the control of the "e / k administration", as he wrote.

The fifth rejection, he said, was in Crans Montana, when in the map submitted by Mustafa Akinci, "the closed Varosia were given to the Greek Cypriot side".

Due to this rejectionist attitude, the Turkish Cypriot side should not wait for the "fun of the Greek Cypriot side", said the "MP" of the KEE, claiming that the Greek Cypriot side is concerned about the "initiative for Varosia" of the "government" and wants to immediately resume negotiations to sell again to the Greek Cypriots the tale of Varosia.
