25-year-old T/k: "It wasn't a racist attack - They got angry because I denied harassment"

The 25-year-old T/k Asya Karaali spoke about the incident of attack in Ayia Napa by E/C. According to a report by Halk Tv, Karaali who is a final year civil engineer at the occupied Eastern Mediterranean University, stated that the incident happened in the morning and said that after leaving an entertainment venue with her friends, she was harassed by 3 Greek Cypriots.

"I had a very bad incident. The biggest factor in this incident was that I was a woman. I think they were probably very drunk, I don't know if they used drugs. They asked me if I was Turkish, maybe if I said I was Spanish I was going to be attacked again. I don't want to show the attack as racism. I think they got angry because I denied their harassment."

Saying that one of them threw her from a 2 meter wall she said “I fainted at the thought, I opened my eyes in the hospital. When I woke up in the hospital, I felt nothing. I suffered a serious injury. I wasn't even myself when I told the Greek police about the incident. When I went north and came home, I didn't even talk to my mother. But my friends said I cried a lot."

Noting that she is yet to get over the shock of the incident, Karaali said, “I went to the south two days in a row and gave a police report, so I couldn't get over the shock of the incident. I feel an incredible fear, insecurity and frustration. I can't fully express my feelings."

Karaali stated that according to the information she received from the Greek Cypriot Police, the two arrested perpetrators did not say anything to the police and said: "The police questioned them, but they did not speak

"I received both positive and negative messages" Referring to the period she lived after the incident, Karaali stated that "they did not pay much attention to me in the hospital on the Greek Cypriot side" and stated that she was taken care of by the Greek Cypriot police. Stating that he received messages of support from the Greeks, Karaali said, "Yes, there are Greeks who don't like me and send bad messages, but I have received both positive and negative messages from the Turks. The Greek politicians called and asked."
