A 33-year-old foreigner with a French passport was found shortly before midnight dead by unknown gunmen on the Ayia Napa highway.
According to the Police, around 22.15 last night, a woman contacted the Famagusta Police Department and stated that on the Ayia Napa-Rizoelia highway, one kilometer before the Ayia Napa roundabout, there was a car that appeared to have been involved in an accident.

Members of the Ayia Napa Police Station went to the scene where they located the vehicle, with its engine and lights on while the driver was not in it. Police investigations revealed that the window of the passenger door was broken by a shot with a bullet nailed to the passenger seat.
After searches in the surrounding area, the Police located at around 23.50 last night, in an acacia grove on the opposite side of the highway and at a distance of about 150 meters from the place where the car was located, a dead man who was shot twice in the head.
The police investigation identified and ascertained that the deceased is 33 years old, a foreigner with a French passport, lived in Ayia Napa and was known to the Drug Prosecution Service for cases of possession and trafficking of drugs.
Men from ADE and TAE Famagusta, the leadership of the Police, went to the area, while Medical Examiners Nikolas Charalambous and Aggeliki Papetta performed an autopsy on the scene.
The area where the murder was committed was cordoned off by the Police and investigations were launched to identify evidence that may lead to the perpetrators of the attack.
According to the Police, after the first shot, the victim got out of his car and ran to escape, however, the perpetrators chased him and with a firearm managed to kill him with two bullets to the head.
Police are also guarding the apartment of the deceased located in Ayia Napa and with the first light of day, investigations are expected to begin.
The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
