Mayor Giannis Karousos warns about the reform of the local self-government and the future of Ayia Napa.
In his statements to Famagusta.News, Giannis Karousos warned that some people cannot "play" with the future of Ayia Napa, but they must be careful and not experiment with unifications during the forthcoming reform, as announced by the Minister of Interior and as is planned for unification with neighboring Municipalities or communities, with the prevailing scenario being its merger with the neighboring Municipality of Sotira.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa based his arguments on the fact that, according to him, the Municipality of Ayia Napa is a Municipality of national importance and offers through tourism about 5% of the national GDP.
According to Giannis Karousos, the element of the active population is not recognized, since, as he said, the city hosts 4,5 million overnight stays every year, almost as many as the entire province of Paphos.
